Dear Shareware Vendor:
Announcing the release of three new shareware games:
* Duke Nukem
* Arctic Adventure
* Jumpman Lives!
With the tremendous success of our Commander Keen we knew we had to
create an outstanding follow-up game, and Duke Nukem is up to the
task. From the response we've gotten from BBS downloads alone, we
expect Duke Nukem to be a much bigger hit than Commander Keen!
Please read the file VENDOR.DOC for a description of this game.
Also enclosed on this disk are several PCX screen shots of Duke
Nukem and Arctic Adventure. These shots are provided in case you
want to include pictures in your catalog. We will continue this
practice in the future. They are not meant to be distributed
with the games.
By the way, Commander Keen was rated the number one selling
shareware program by the Association of Shareware Professions in
both April and May 1991, beating out big sellers like Sky Globe,
ViruScan and PKZip.
Duke Nukem is just the beginning of a torrent of games soon to flow
from Apogee Software─all of the highest quality. Look for these
titles to be released over the next few months:
* Commander Keen II: Goodbye Galaxy -- This game will break all
records! There will be a 256-color VGA version, plus an EGA and
a CGA version. All three versions will have multiple sound card
support. This game will make the current Keen look like Pong─we
have gone all out to make this the best game possible with many
new innovations in graphics and animation. (Soon after the release
off Goodbye Galaxy we will re-release the current Keen in CGA, EGA
and 256-color VGA formats, with sound card support, too.)
* Crystal Caves -- The most detailed animation yet seen in an
IBM game. This game is very much like Mario Bros., but with many
twists and new features. Sure to be a major hit.
* Secret Agent Man -- You play S.A.M. in this puzzle-oriented
Nintendo-style game. Much in the style of Keen, but with a super
spy theme.
* Paganitzu -- This is the ultimate puzzle-oriented
arcade/action game, set in a vast Aztec pyramid. Over one year in
the making. Many ingenious story twists and animated sequences.
* Bio-Hazard -- Another outstanding Keen-like game set in a
huge science complex. It seems an experiment has gone berserk and
mutated creatures are gaining control. New standards for graphics will
be seen in this game.
* Ace the Flying Squirrel -- As "Ace" (Alexander Christopher
Emerson) you'll need to find and save your girlfriend who's been
caught in a trap and taken into the big city. You'll actually fly
(or glide) in this game.
* Other games in production include Dino Daze, Gateworld,
Graveyard, and an epic medieval game. In the future we plan to
make several 3-D games that will compete with the quality seen in
Wing Commander, and also Sierra-style graphic adventures.
Obviously, we're keeping our 22 game designers very busy! Internally
we've developed some of the most amazingly fast graphics routines in
the business. Our routines are so impressive, in fact, that we've
received offers from three large commercial publishers to buy them
(of course, we had to politely refuse).
Due to this outpouring of games, Apogee would like to see an
"Apogee Games" page in catalogs. This will allow customers to turn
to the special Apogee section, and know they're getting a top-
notch game. We believe this will benefit you as much as Apogee,
because people will more likely order from your catalog if they are
sure to get a quality program. It's just a thought...
The other two games enclosed are Jumpman Lives! and Arctic
Adventure. Jumpman Lives! runs in CGA, EGA and 256-color VGA mode,
and supports Ad Lib. This is an addicting puzzle-oriented game
with something new on each level. Arctic Adventure is the sequel
to our big hit, Pharaoh's Tomb. For better descriptions of both
these games, please read the VENDOR.DOC file enclosed.
On a sour note, Apogee Software has been refused membership into
the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) due to our games'
use of cheat codes. In other words, since we offer a cheat code to
registered players, the ASP has ruled that our software is crippled.
Apogee has never had a customer complaint regarding our use of cheat
codes as a registration incentive. And several of the ASP board members
believe that cheat codes are not crippling as used in our games, but the
overall membership has voted us out. Therefore, Apogee is no longer
seeking membership into this organization, even though we would like
to be a contributing member.
Other News: Apogee Software moved into new office suites in June.
Our staff of six appreciate the large offices, each with large
windows on the outside walls. Our new office number is (214) 278-
5655. ∙∙∙ Apogee has received a great deal of press lately, with
reviews of our software appearing in dozens of publications, in
books and even on television. We are growing quickly and plan to
be in business into the far future.
Very sincerely,
Scott Miller
